The rapid growth of Buhoma village close to the main entrance of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Kanungu district south western Uganda into a relatively big town is a perfect example of local economic development through tourism. According to the International Institute for Environment and Development, before the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the number of tourists visiting Bwindi impenetrable forest in a year had increased to 20,000 from 1,300 in 1993. The increase in the number of tourists came with increased development in local communities close to the park as some residents of Buhoma narrate.
